The festival, which has almost doubled its attendance to 10,000, takes place at Yerba Buena Gardens, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Zeum, and the Metreon. Additional indoor spaces may be added as needed. Last year’s festival featured Suzan-Lori Parks’ 365 Days/365Plays, Insignificant Others, an award-winning original musical going to New York; The Intersection for the Arts; The Exit Theatre; The Marsh; and Tell it on Tuesday.

Also featured were the African-American Shakespeare Company, the Asian American Theater Company, BATS Improv, Blue Blanket Improv, Clown Conservatory, 42nd Street Moon, Jazz Kids (from Singapore), Lamplighters Musical Theatre, Colored Ink Hip Hop, Last Night at Playland, No Nude Men Productions, Playground, San Francisco Buffoons, Spellbinder Entertainment, and many others.

“Last summer, the festival was SRO for most of the day. Every venue was jammed, giving the performers a large and lively audience to perform for. It was an excellent showcase for all who performed,” said producer Bill Schwartz. “By working together, the theater community has created the largest theater event of the year whose main objective is to promote theatergoing. We invite all who want to see our theater scene soar to join us”

In addition to committed theatergoers, attendees include the theater-curious, new comers to San Francisco, theater professionals, students, visitors, and families. Many attendees report they are interested in learning more about the Bay Area theater scene. Theater groups can staff tables for distribution of promotional literature and for subscription sales.

Yerba Buena Gardens is located between Mission & Folsom, Third & Fourth Streets in San Francisco. The San Francisco Theater Festival is presented in partnership with the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival (www.ybgf.org).
