Sixth Annual San Francisco Theater Festival To Feature Wicked & Beach Blanket Babylon

San Francisco, May 16, 2009— The 6th annual San Francisco Theater Festival, a free one-day celebration of live theater on Sunday, July 26, 2009, will feature outdoor performances by cast members of Wicked and Beach Blanket Babylon.

The festival, which consists of 120 shows on 16 stages, will take place at the Yerba Buena Gardens arts complex in downtown San Francisco, including the new Contemporary Jewish Museum from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

This unique festival, which began in 2004, has become an important showcase for theater groups and performers, as well as one of the Bay Area’s most popular one-day free summer festivals. The festival program consists of performances under 30 minutes at eight indoor and six outdoor stages. All types of theater are presented, including drama, comedy, one-acts, excerpts, scenes, musical theater, solo performers, improv, children's shows, new works, workshops, opera, etc.

"By working together, the San Francisco Bay Area's theater community has created the largest theater event of the year whose main objectives are to showcase exciting performers and promote theatergoing," said producer Bill Schwartz.

The festival, with attendance of 8-10,000 enthusiastic theatergoers and potential theatergoers, takes place at Yerba Buena Gardens, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Zeum, the Metreon, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum. The festival will include: The Marsh, Tell it on Tuesday, 42nd Street Moon, Lamplighters Music Theater, Stagebridge, No Nude Men Productions, Three Wise Monkeys, Ray of Light, BATS Improv, AtmosTheatre, Opera Piccola, Playground, Vox Maids, Killing My Lobster, and many others. Plus 30 shows for children.

Yerba Buena Gardens is located between Mission & Folsom, Third & Fourth Streets in San Francisco. The San Francisco Theater Festival is presented in partnership with the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival (www.ybgf.org).
